Ilusão de espaço: ponto de fuga, 2013

Um conflito de terras no vale desértico de Humahuaca, no norte da Argentina, deixou um ônibus incendiado como testemunha de um assassinato. O local já fez parte do sistema cultural andino por meio da ocupação inca e atualmente vive do turismo, sofrendo grande especulação financeira, principalmente depois de declarada patrimônio da humanidade pela Unesco.
A organização Titi Guerra protagonizou uma tomada violenta de terras na periferia da cidade de Humahuaca. Ao ser confrontada por locais, um tiro de arma foi disparado, acertando e matando Luis Darío “Pato” Condori. Os moradores, revoltados, expulsaram os integrantes da Titi Guerra e incendiaram os ônibus, que permaneceram como monumentos do lado de fora da cidade, em sua área de expansão.
A sobreposição dos destroços do ônibus sobre o vão do deserto formou uma grade no espaço. Para mim, de passagem pelo deserto e confrontado com essa história, sobrava apenas um desenho oxidado sobre uma paisagem. A ilusão de perspectiva, no entanto, conceito tradicional a partir do Renascimento europeu, aqui recaindo sobre o deserto andino, trouxe uma outra descoberta: o dia em que Colombo supostamente pisou na América Central foi o mesmo da morte de Piero della Francesca, estudioso italiano da perspectiva, cujos gráficos de estudo figuram em meio às imagens do vídeo

Illusion of Space: Vanishing Point, 2013

A land conflict in the desert valley of Humahuaca, northern Argentina left a burned bus as a witness of a murder. The site was once part of the Andean cultural system through the Inca occupation and currently lives from tourism incomes, suffering great financial speculation, especially after being declared as World Heritage Site by Unesco.
The organization Titi Guerra played a violent land takeover on the outskirts of the city of Humahuaca. When confronted by locals, a gunshot was fired, hitting and killing Luis Dario “Pato” [Duck] Condori. The residents, in rebellion, expelled the members of Titi Guerra and burned down the buses, which remained as monuments outside the town, in its area of ex- pansion.
The overlapping of the wreckage of the bus on the desert bay formed a grid in space. As passing through the desert and even being confronted with this story, I could see only a rusty drawing on a landscape. The illusion of perspective, however, a traditional concept from European Renaissance, here falling on the Andean desert, brought another discovery: the day that Christopher Columbus supposedly set foot in Central America was the same as the death of Piero della Francesca, an Italian researcher of perspective, whose charts appear on the im- ages of the video.
